Application Information

Scott Hall Acceptance to the program requires graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education of the AMA (if US graduate). Applicants must meet the criteria listed in the "Essentials of Accredited Residencies".

Application Process
The Wayne State University Internal Medicine Residency Program participates in and accepts applications only through the Electronic Residency Application Service Program (ERAS). You must contact your medical school for delivery of your application, transcript, Dean's letters and faculty recommendations to our program via the internet. In addition, applicants must apply through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

Required Documents for Application

  1. Letters of Recommendation -- In addition to a Dean's letter from a medical school, three letters of recommendation must be arranged to be sent through ERAS. These letters should attest to the applicant's personal qualifications and scholastic and clinical abilities.
  2. Transcripts/Diploma -- A copy of the most recent medical school transcript should be included in the application. If the applicant has completed medical school, a copy of the diploma should accompany the application.
  3. USMLE Scores -- Applicants must have copies of USMLE test scores forwarded to accompany the application.
  4. ECFMG Certificate -- International Graduates must include a valid (not expired) copy of the ECFMG certificate with the application.

International Medical Graduates

  1. USMLE scores of 90 or higher, while 2-3 months U.S. clinical experience strengthens the application
  2. Preference is given to those applicants who have graduated from medical school no longer than 2-3 years ago
  3. Must have passed USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 to obtain an interview
  4. Must have excellent English comprehension and speaking skills
  5. J1 Visas Offered. H1 visas will be offered to selective candidates (must have successfully completed USMLE steps 1, 2 and 3 on the first attempt and must be ECFMG certified prior to Match list submission).

Interview Process
Selected applicants will be interviewed beginning Nov. 1, 2008, and will run though Jan. 30, 2009. Those selected will be offered an interview via email from Ms. Tammy Lee.

In order to be ranked, all applicants must have posted a passing score for USMCE Step 2.
